(This story involves a vacant lot where an old FFPW was used to move wrecked cars around. It's a cold snowy night here in tropical Shelter Island, and I thought you boys and girls might enjoy a little telephone company story from Uncle Arthur.)

Willy Vasquez, a telephone repairman, was sent to a backyard 1200-pair telephone cable terminal in a bombed-out section of Harlem (NYC) in the 1970's. The subscriber was an alarm company customer (a liquor store) and the burglar alarm pair was a critical circuit.

Several previous repairmen had reported that they could not fix the problem due to a large, loud, nasty, chained dog in the junkyard lot. The "No Access" reports were not viewed positively by the escalation desk whose job it was to get the repair done.

Every repairman had gotten out of the truck, and had been chased back into the cab by Fang. The only thing that kept the boys from becoming dog food was the substantial chain holding our furry friend back.

Willy was sent out, and soon he called in and reported that he had found and re-run a broken cross-connection wire at the terminal.

When the Boss, upon hearing the good news, asked Willy how he had managed to get past the doggie and reach the terminal, Willy said "Easy, Boss...I just parked on the chain."
