I agree on the best engineering in the US.
I recently bought the CD series on "Victory at Sea". Us'en older guys remember the "Victory at Sea" series on NBC. Constantly shown in the 12 hour series, is how the American Industry geared up for the 2 front war. How the American Industry supplied vast quanities of all types of needed material for the war from airplanes, tanks to food and everything else.
We still have the engineering ability but NOT the Build Industry. If we get into another Big One....and we will.....where is the needed supplies coming from. Not China, we will probably be fighting them.
If you ave never seen or heard of the "Victory at Sea" series, you should get it and watch. Most interesting chronicle of the war with all real footage.
