Small block Mopars like a TOTAL ADVANCE of no more then 38 degrees but it will have lots to do with many things about your engine and the fuel you use. Most of the time 32-34 degrees of TOTAL ADVANCE is what they like.
As you have experienced timing is critical in all areas of the motor. Starting and power hot or cold.
You arent there yet on the tuning.
