Recently there was a thread about timing a 318. The responses all stated that the timing was around 32 degress BTDC if I recall. I put the light on mine today to finish up the electronic conversion. My 62 factory manual says 10 degrees BTDC and that is what I timed it for. The scale on the timing chain cover dosent even read up (or down) to the 30's.
The odd thing was, on the crank pulley were 2 lines about 1 1/2" apart. I figured it would only run decent to one of the lines and so I went wilt the first one to come to the 10 BTDC mark because it smoothed right out at that point. got the vacuum line hooked back up, tightened the distributor doen, revved it up a couple of times, she sounded great. I backed her out of the garage and drove into the shed and shut her down. Later, went back to plow the driveway and she started right up. started out of the shed and got maybe 60 feet and she quit. hard starting, finally got it to start and limped back to the shed. Now I am baffled. So much for the electronic ignition conversion being plug and play.
