I think you are referring to the "engine brake" which is truly a completely different product, made by Jacobs and referred to as the "Jake Brake". Jacobs (and others) make what is called an "exhaust brake". These fit in back of the turbo and, as you said, are not at all comparable to an engine brake. My Jacobs exhaust brake works great on my Cummins.
