you should have shot the dog - period. unfortunately most pitbulls are dangerous because of overbreeding and bad owners. its hard to buy your kid a new face after the neighbor's 'usually friendly' previously beaten & abused rescue pitbull attacks. kids are more valuable than dogs, case closed. my friend's sister was attacked by a pitbull jogging on a local street. it ripped her achilles tendon off of her foot and caused lifelong damage. another girl i went to high school with was killed by the 2 cana corsos in san francisco being raised by lawyers for their clients who were in prison.
my attitude toward dogs is that they are great companions to responsible, caring owners. when they are allowed to stray, menace neighbors or in general cause unease or make your kids afraid on YOUR property - whatever you do to protect your family is your right. i can't imagine the true dog owners that i know here on the page or in my circle of friends would have dogs that do any of the above.
