Aside from the cars at the test track (probably hundreds rather than "thousands"), the rest of the pictures look like what you'd see at the major ports even during good times. I used to live in Seattle and I'd see sights like that all the time, especially up at Interbay. San Diego's an even bigger port. Even in a slow year, there are something like 40,000 vehicles sold EVERY DAY in the US. If even just one day's inventory was kept on lots awaiting shipment, and there were a dozen such lots all over the country, that would still be "thousands of vehicles" sitting on each lot. I suspect there's more than one day's inventory being temporarily stored at any given time, and I'd be surprised if there are more than three or four significant ports for auto imports. The sight of thousands of cars parked somewhere may be impressive to someone who's not used to seeing it, but I don't know that it really means anything in terms of the economy.
