Without the spacer it wouldn't work - not enough space I'm sure. This is because we're mixing a standard PW Budd wheel with a offset Budd wheel... that's where the spacer comes into play, it provides the additional room required when not using two offset wheels together; my take on it.

I like the setup because to get back to single wheel usage on the PW, I only need to remove the outer wheel and the "add-on" Studs, then bolt the single tire back on with regular Budd lug nuts.

I made sure when I took this photo that I was shooting straight down the middle of the two tires...even though I was starting to capsize apparently(ha!).
