Well, I went back and forth on whether to go with the Mopar Performance electronic ignition or the Pertronix conversion. I finally decided to go with the Pertronix Ignitor II and a Pertronix 60,000 volt coil.
Did the conversion this afternoon, got it all in and turned the key, expecting it to fire right up, but no. She cranked over and hitched every few seconds, but no attempt to fire. Bummer. Back out, double check all of the work, rechecked the gap on the module, everything looked fine, same result. It sounded just like an engine way out of time. The Pertronix instructions say" start it up, run it up to temp and them check the timing and adjust as needed. I interperted that to mean it should at least start! I marked the position of the distributor and loosened the hold down bolt and rotated it about 5/16" CCW. Tried it and the hitching was worse, moved it about the same amount the other side of the mark and she fired right up and ran great. About then I had to go pick up my Daughter, so I didnt have a chance to put a timing light on it. Maybe tomorrow. Anyone else have this when doing a Pertronix conversion?
Tim
