I also have a hatchet that belonged to my grandfather. This reminds me of the story I read in the newspaper once. This guy was sentimentalizing about old stuff and he mentioned that he has his grandfather's axe. He was very proud of the fact that when he broke the handle he went out and bought a new handle for his "grandfather's axe". A couple of years later, he decided it was too dull and apparently wasn't capable of filing it to sharpen it. So he went and bought a new head for "his grandfather's axe". :) Now the dummy has a brand new axe with a two year old handle and still referred to it as "his grandfather's axe".
