I have a number of chisels, plane irons, augur bits, and a drawknife that I still occasionally use that belonged to my grandfather's grandfather who had a furniture and cabinet shop in San Francisco in the 1870s. Most have patent dates from that period. They might not all be imports, but the plane irons and some of the chisels are marked "Sheffield". The chisels are excellent, but I stupidly broke a couple of them when my grandmother gave them to me when I was a teenager and I was too rough on them.
