It would probably work on AC. The only problem would be if the iron in the laminations was too thick and got too hot from eddy currents. If it did get too hot, a cheap bridge rectifier would turn the AC into DC and keep the old iron happy. Most of the electric appliances up until the war, including radios, were AC/DC because a lot of farmers still had DC from their own generators.

It's a neat looking fan. If I found it at a yard sale for $20, I would probably try it. 11 grand for it just reminds me that no matter what happens to the economy that the rest of us live in, the rich will always have money.
