Ah, Pinto's! When my brothers and I were old enough to have after school jobs, my dad bought a Pinto for us to drive. I was sitting near the bottom of a hill waiting to make a left turn across traffic and I was rear-ended by a doofus who somehow didn't notice I was stopped. His car was totaled, the Pinto just got a slight dent in the rear bumper. It was a few years later that the news stories about the likelihood of ruptured gas tanks in rear end collisions with Pintos made me realize how lucky I was.
After college, the first car I ever bought was a used 1974 Pinto station wagon with 60,000 miles on it. Because of the gas tank news, it only cost me $900. I drove it for another 14 years before selling it to some kid for $300. DODGE CONTENT: I went from a Pinto station wagon to a 79 Power Wagon!
