... and get everything set up just right. Haste does truely make waste in eengine start-ups. Pre-lubing is important, as I have learned that hard way from first-hand experience.
Check it, and double check it, then fire away. It will start on the first crank. No better feeling in the world.
If something goes wrong; stop and think for awhile. There's always a reason. Slow down, have a cigarette (or whatever), and figure it out. Don't bust the thing up with hasty "fixes". It will be there tomorrow, and the next day.
