Hi Jerry,
I wont say that the PTO in your picture wont fit an NP420, but it looks nothing like the OEM PTO. The OEM unit was made by Arrow Gear Co. and has one helical gear and one straight gear. Yours appears to have 2 hel;ical, which "could" be ok, as one gear is driven by the tranny and the other is what spins the gears in the PTO. If the PTO has helical gears then you would have 2 helical gears as in your pic. A PTO has to be a perfect fit. I played with fitting a PTO onto my NP435. I had half a dozen PTOs on the bench to try. Some were no way, some were maybe and one looked prerfect and bolted up fine. The gears were nonetheless incompatible and it locked everyything right up as I tightened it up. I tryed shimming it back several different distances, even stacking washers as shims just to experiment and no go. Thats when I noticed that the gears were incompatible.
Good luck,
Tim
