Nope, no snow here. Just 10 degrees and hard ice all over the streets. Even my dog was having hard time getting traction and she has 4 wheel drive and studs. This has sure been a long cold snap and there's no end in sight. Who would have thought that Barack Obama would have been able to cure global warming so quickly? The man truly does have God's ear.

I think a good winter project for this evening will be to collect all my old car radios into one box and write down what kinds they are. The only car I remember personally with a tube-powered radio was our 1960 T-bird. Strangely, for such a nice car, it also had vacuum-powered windshield wipers.
I'm sure I couldn't hear the radio while driving the PW on the highway, but I doubt I'll ever drive it on the highway.

Being able to get the auger mechanism from Clint Dixon is inspiring me to actually restore the telephone truck -- not to show condition but to working, digging, driving condition. If it's true that there's a cutout in the dash for a radio, and I have the radio to fit it, then obviously I want to get it working. I'm sure I could hear it driving around town or on the back roads, though around here all I could listen to is KWAL, which consists of the same sappy top-10 modern country songs over and over again, plus high school football on football nights, and church on Sunday morning.

I restore old tube-powered electronics, and old trucks, so it would be fun to combine the two. I have loads of tubes, and even some old vibrators (the radio kind) in my bone yard.
