I have reused several speedometers over the years. A good one that works well is not worth attempting to remove the needle. I ruined one by yanking on it. Simply tape off the needle with blue masking tape and repaint the face. Then do the opposite to paint the needle. Go to an art supply store and find some white number stickers that are similar to the original numbers apply them and your in business. You can also remove the odometer wheels and zero the speedometer. Mine have always come out looking great.
