Reading the post by our Power Wagon leader + some of the answers following about old jacks. There are still some good quality jacks made today OTC,Lincoln,Grey they are much lighter + easier to move around then the stuff from the 50S which there is still quite a bit still in service in old time garages.I have a few myself that I use every day.Right now I have a GMC dually lifted with my old Bishman air bumper jack in 1 bay that I am replacing the center bearing + doing some service work on.A late F150 next to it lifted by a Lincoln floor jack I bought right about the time my daughter was born 22 yrs ago that has never failed me yet.I also have my old race car sitting on Hein Werner stands in my far bay that are still with me long after I wore the jack they came with out.I also have a Globe bay lift that I dont use much no more but it will still lift anything that I own or still work on.I worked a wreck Sat afternoon ,pick up thru a guardrail on a Mt road down about 75 ft on a bunch of rocks + the first phase of a 2 hr recovery was to secure the p/u to my wrecker with cable + snatch block then jack up the truck with 2 small bottle jacks + hardwood blocks I carry for that reason to get it off the rocks then I was able to hand winch with a heavy come a long+ chains most of them out of the way for a path of least resistance easy recovery + up over the bank it came.I have owned + used many jacks for most of my life working in shops + on the road but as I was taught many years back by my old boss + friend {may he rest in peace} NEVER WORK UNDER ANYTHING JUST HELD UP BY A JACK USE PROPER JACK STANDS WOOD BLOCKS + CHOCKS + WORK SAFELY.I also have one of them long Blackhawks with the locking handle + streamlined body.I think it also had a headlite on it at one time.Raises real slow, must be leakin or bypassin internally.Gonna see about fixin it someday + use it in my vintage workin garage
