In my experience, NDT treads are great in the kind of
sticky gumbo mud that turns any normal treads into slicks.
The very thick rubber also helps with avoiding punctures
on sharp rocks. I once got a railroad spike all the way into
the tread and just barely sticking out the sidewall of a
9.00X20 NDT and it didn't pop the tube. On the other hand
they're useless on compact snow or ice. You just have to
chain up when you get into snow unless its a rough road and
you're the first one driving on it. If I had to buy a set
of brand new tires I would not get NDTs but as long as there
are good used ones around I'll stick with them.
