Is it o.k. to use 85w-140 in gearboxes & xfer case?

I have a few gallons of it to use up. I know that I have 85w-90 in the transmission. Is it OK to put the heavier stuff in the other boxes? P.S. I live at 2500ft in the Cascade mountians, so there is snow on the ground 4 months out of the year if O.A. temp is a factor.
