Welcome to Forum #29.

I recived this picture from Gary Fixsen along with this note:

Years ago my father used a variety of 4x4s and 4x6s for his his welding business that did heavy repair of railroad, mining, logging and mill
equipment. A civilian one ton PW was used to carry a 300 amp Hobart Gas welder. It was a large unit that weighed nearly a ton by itself, not to
mention all the tools the truck carried. It was a slow vehicle but could go anywhere.

Another ton and a half Dodge 6x6 was military surplus, but amazingly had only 11,000 miles on it and just like new when he bought at a govt
auction in 1949. It was retrofitted with a larger engine (a long stroke V-8 of some sort as I recall). That truck carried a huge 700 amp Lincoln welder
powered by a an in lline eight clyinder Packard engine. It had an enclosed cab and stake side body instead of the usual utility bodies normally seen
on them. On level ground with the weight of that welder on it moved TD-18 crawler tractors that were having their tracks rebuilt. They were about the
same size as CAT D-6s or D-7s. (Actually, they move easier than you might think by just looking at them.)

Best wishes, thanks for sharing your information.
Gary Fixsen
