Actually thinning the oil with gas was a common procedure for airplanes with air cooled engines operating in cold weather. Some airplaned were modified for cold weather operations by adding a valve from the fuel pump to the oil tank that was actuated before shut down to mix fuel into the oil tank to thin the oil for the next start up. Then when the engine was started as the oil warmed up it slowly vaporized restoring the oil to it's original viscosity.
This was before multiviscosity oils were certified in airplanes.
