All of them can use AC primary voltage, 240v and 480v and three phase, Some engine driven units were DC brush on communtator, like the lincoln pipeliner.

Wirefeed or MIG output is DC and used to be called constant potential, meaning they will continue to put out power to meet the demand untill they reach max output.

Stick machines were called VV or variable voltage meaning you set the max output with the controls. The VV machine could be stubed out like for thawing pipes and run there all day.

The reason the wire machines are CP is so the amperage can be controled by the wire feeder speed, as you increase to wire speed the machine handles the increce.
The two parameters are not interchangable.
I hope this helps.
The machines are now called CC for constant curent and I forget the other one.
I have six machines that will do what you are wanting to do as far as mig stick and subarc as well as carbon ark and stud welding. They are the Linc DC 1000, the last one I bought was around 6800.00 and is run on 480 3PH.
In my shop I have machines that are dedicated to whatever the need is. I do have one TiG machine that will do a good job as a stick welder but it is used as a TIG and the MIG is a MIG and so on.
