Depends on the welders. I think the smaller migs are DC + or - and the sticker welders I thought at one time long ago were AC and now they can go both ways.
There are spool gun attachments you can attach to an old stick welder. Our railroad welding truck has a similair setup but I think a high end MIG welder would be the better way to go if you wanted a spool of sorts to use with the higher amperage of the stick welder.
