Speedometer rebuild 1948

Can anyone tell me the difficulty in rebuilding a speedo for my 48 PW.
The needle is rattling around inside the case and the odometer numbers and background paint on the odometer have seen better days. I don't have a ton of money to buy a new one that is why I am thinking of taking the existing one apart and then maybe source a few parts for it. The front glass is in very good shape and all numbers are in good condition.
