I was trying to elude to that in my post, guess I used wrong wording. Dodge Engineers wanted to maintain parallel, thus the shim. But if the spring pads were welded on the axles at the proper angle, the tapered ship would not be necessary. They could have used a square lift block, no taper. So the question still looms, why were the spring pads welded on at a angle that required a tapered lift block. We will probably never know
