as I noted below the Tire & Rim association
1972 yearbook shows min 3/32" and max 5/16"
for split lock ring end clearance.
also the misalignment of the ends of the split rim must not exceed 1/32" when rings are in assembled position.
if you have all your wheels dismounted then
you might mix about to get proper clearance
have them inflated by a truck tire shop
as they will have the cage and proper air
lines. or you could get a service call from local truck / AG tire shop as mobile service trucks have inflation cages. and this might be easier than taking your tires & wheels to the shop.
i might suggest that you have a truck tire
expert look at your wheels but with todays surplus of lawyers looking for work i doubt if you will find anyone to say the wheels are fine.
there are many sites you can find that will
give truck wheel inspection guidelines
No matter what all the forum experts might say Truck Tire Service is not a DIY operation
go to the "best of the forum" scoll on down
to OSHA tire paper and read for yourself
