Without a hinged windshield, we've got all the room in the world to put wipers under the dash.

Our problem is figuring out how to fit motors and linkage in the tight header.

I've seen two methods of installing fixed glass:

One is to 'glue' in two pieces with a siliconed joint in the center. No center rib that way.

The other is a modification done to some of the Danish (I think) M-601 hard tops. It is a fiberglass overlay that laps from roof seam to cowl, and from drip ledge to drip ledge. The glass is set in by the rubber moldings, like on bread trucks or rear windows, etc. Wider divider between panes, even than stock. I think the Danish samples had header mounted wipers, but could be changed, what with all the room under the dash.

Either way, you kill two birds with one stone- the rusted out windshield frames, and the wimpy vacuum wipers.

That all said, I think I do have a functional two speed system in my '53. By mounting a heavy duty motor to the right kick panel, and using a Morse/Teleflex cable up to the header, it looks pretty O.E.

It takes wipers, blades, motor, and 'shafts' from marine/truck/bus/motorhomes. Plus the cable, plus some ball joints. Plus modifying some of those parts in addition to making brackets and links. I'm into it for $250 in all new parts, plus labor, so could sell a system for about $450. And you would need to ream out the holes in your cab for the shafts.

Or make your own from junkyard parts. Lots of motors would work, even an interval system. Pics of an earlier rendition on Paul's Restoration Ally site. Some later pics avialible if you want to post an email addy.
