Hi David,
My first Power Wagon plow truck was a real beater. 6 volt but I always ran it with a 12 volt battery. The heater motor always worked great on 12v. I would run it on 12 until it cooks (if it cooks) and then replace it with a 12 v motor.
Heat is a good thing!
