Well LA was, but not East LA, South Central and South East LA, down the Golden State Fwy.
Firestone Blvd was so named because Firestone Tire had a huge plant there, as did Uniroyal and Goodyear. We also had a Dodge Plant (some WDX's came from here) as well as huge GM and Ford Plants, and Plymouth, Studebaker and Rambler factories.
Northrop is in the old Ford Plant, but North American, Hughes, Rockwell, General Dynamics, Douglas, Lockheed and Kaiser are all gone.....
