Like I said before, Everything is intertwined so you really can't make blanket statements on what provides Americans jobs or not. Looks like our company: American owned and operated: are going to take away perishishable tooling away from Mitsumi(Japanese tooling manuafacture) Toyota liked our quality, delivery and price better than theirs.
The myth of Lean Manufacturing is keeping a lot of buisiness here in the states. Lean is some pencil pushers idea to keep no inventory on hand and no extras of anything. Just order things when needed keeping overhead down. Problem is when a line goes down you have a LOT of overhead waiting ;)
That in a nutshell is what keeps us going. Our stuff is made to order and most is one day delivery. China, Japan and everyone else can't make it, send it and make money in one day time. Sometimes if it is a real complicated they'll pay double or triple the price for overtime to get it quicker.
I guess those Pencil Pushers are good for something afterall. We've been picking up loads of foreign orders as the dollar devaluing is making our products cheaper or in line. The comment we been getting is that they are impressed with our stuff so maybe in the long run THEY"LL realize quality is worth something.

By the way, Our former parent company tried to open a plant in China and they just closed the doors on it. They couldn't get them to keep the quality standard up and too much turnover of workers to keep training them constantly. Hate to think how much money they blew on that one yet it was our fault for not upping our quotas. errrr...
