But they are changing, they just ran out of time.
Quality suffered under Daimler because the Germans were only interested in a quick buck, Daimler beat down the suppliers, substituted hard cheap plastics where there once was upholstery and generally cut corners. Customers knew it.
Like Hyundai before, when products go bad you offer a better warranty to win back consumers, Chrysler is on the right track now.
I don't dispute anything that you mentioned, I just don't have any faith the Consumer Reports mag rag. For 25 years they have been bashing America Industry while turning a blind eye to the same issues with imported products. Where do they mention the millions of Toyota recalls?
The three year test phase is what I have read, so I have little faith in their "results" from the last year, except to say that they are probably extrapolated from early returns and if anything weighted to show less of an improvement than there may actually be.
Competition always makes products better, but America automakers have been running the race with government and union imposed anvils around their necks while the Foreign runners have been given steroids by their governments in the form of subsidies.
