How do you use an article from the 1960s?

To judge a current publication? If there was evidence of bias back then (or whatever behavior this article complains about), and Consumer Reports was still doing the same thing, wouldn't there be a more recent article about it?

Regardless, I trust my own experience, and in general their reliability ratings match what I have found in my own vehicles, and those of my friends.

As far as I understand it, they send a survey out once a year to all members, who fill out the survey, and send it back. Obviously not everyone is careful to note every good or bad detail about their car, but I would guess it all averages out in the end. Individual experiences will always very, but I like my chances of getting to 150,000 better in the higher rated cars from any maker.

If you are complaining about the reporting, and how they judge good and bad, I agree. They have a specific set of test criteria, that may or may not match the needs of every person. On the whole though I find it a useful place to check, among other sources.
