I drive an American made vehicle, and my hobby is old Dodge trucks. I respect my country, and my fellow citizens. My toolbox is full of Snap-On tools, and I Vote.

What part of that is anti American?

But to say that I should not give money to companies that make a good quality product, regardless of where it is made sounds like Communism to me.

Have you ever driven one of the cars made during the rein of the Iron Curtain? In those countries they HAD to buy their cars from the state owned companies, which built most models with little to no change for 20 plus years. Imports were not allowed, so there was no competition. When the Berlin Wall came down the new governments did their best to get those old outdated, unsafe, and polluting cars off the road.

Just image this, if I did not have the option of buying a Toyota why would GM have kept improving their cars? Would we have the new and pretty decent Malibu? Lack of competition causes stagnation. Buy whatever you want, but be aware that closing off a country to imports is not how you create a great society.

I judge what car I will buy based on the recommendations of friends, my mechanic, and searching publications like Consumer Reports. When I bought my last vehicle everyone told me to buy a Toyota, I wish I had as my American made vehicle blew a transmission (with a $3,000 repair bill) at 87,000 miles. Checking Consumer Reports shows my transmission is prone to blowing up, but the Toyota version is pretty much trouble free. Guess what? Unless things improve next time I will buy a Toyota, or a Honda, or whatever my sources say is the least likely to have problems. If that turns out to be a Dodge that is great. But I will not buy something known to have problems just to support a company. I can't afford to buy something that has lots of known mechanical problems.
