I had one of these in a '77 chevy 3/4 ton. great transfer case but AWFUL large and heavy if you ever have to pull it for any reason (ie replacing seals). There are several kits for making them part time, but I found that it was just as easy to run down a 208C to swap it with (you will have to change the trans output shaft and adapter). My truck had the Eaton "Gov-Loc" rear and a limited slip front. From what I understand, transfercase works somewhat like an open differential. Hi and low ranges are just other transfer cases, but the difference is in the dist. of power to the wheels like in hi or low it is something like 60% rear 40% front, but in hi and low lock it is 50/50 which was AWESOME in my old chevy with the traction aids front and rear. Although it was a good transfer case, in my opinion, you would probably be better suited by going to a part time setup like an NP208 or 241. Better mileage, less drivetrain wear.....that said..I have a 727 and 241 (B I think) if you are interested....hows that for a sales pitch?
