Nope, always syncro, that I can say with some certainty, but who knows (someone here will). Keith's comments about putting an m37 tranny into an early pw for the syncro is exactly what we did to my brother's wdx. Sort of funny because I said go for it, just drop the entire eng/bell/tranny in there from an m37 someone else repowered. I was not there when he tried but he quickly found out the whole set up is slightly offset in an M37, which I forgot about and didn't tell him, so the bellhousing mount ears weren't even close to fitting in his wdx. One is long one is short. I got a few choice words from him on that one. So he had to pull it out and insert the pw bell between the m37 engine and tranny and swap the front mount. He did put a PW pto on the m37 tranny but had to grind the pto housing some to fit with the brake pedal mount. There was a crank pully issue to but I forget what happend with that. The tranny cover from the wdx didn't work either, so that was cut. Probably because of the shifter tower change that Keith mentioned. I can't say what vintage the m37 tranny was that went in the the wdx, early vs late. I could compare it to my M37 which is early.
