One-wire alternators seem like the simple solution, especially after you've gotten frustrated with mysterious electrical problems, but they create their own problems by sensing the voltage inside the alternator, where it's the highest, rather than at the battery terminal where it matters. Actually, most charging systems are in between because they sense at the regulator, which is closer to the battery than the alternator is.
