I had a 20 year old boat a few years ago. Slow cranking, poorly charged batteries.

But after I hooked up a three-wire alternator with the senser wire to the battery where it belongs, I had 13.9 at the battery, but 16.5 at the alternator. 25 feet of cabling from the alt to the ammeter and back, plus terminals, all exposed to salt spray for 20 years, made for quite the resistance to the wiring. Sure started better with fully charged batteries. And convinced me that 3-wire is the only way to fly. Stock Mopar with the sensor hooked to the ignition is second best. I wouldn't have a One-Wire Delco except in my core pile.
