The Ford 9" (jeep was custom) 3rd member fit in the PW slot. New stud hole locations would need to be made and a small extension to one side of the opening. The 35 spline axle from my jeep slid into the opening and into the carrier.
It would of course require new axles for the proper length. I don't know if the 9" would be available with an input for the old style axle splines. I'll play with it a little more and see what I can get.
The top to bottom measurements for the housings are the same, but the 9" housing is a little wider. The 9" opening is like a flattened oval rather than a circle.
