A slide in wrecker/Boom would have much more damage to the bed. Repo trucks of that nature are usually used and abused. Some are not as abused as others, but I'd say most are.
Are there any trailer connections above the wheel wells? Could the bed have not been originally on the truck?
Another option would be that they put one of those hard case travel pods in the truck bed for additional traveling storage such as luggage and such. The white things people attach to the roof of their car to take their college kid to college :o)
