you are better off shaving a stock head. same performance / less leaks & corrosion. best low buck upgrade is likely electronic ignition. next would be improve breathing & exhaust & cam. if you can find a 2 bbl cast iron intake manifold for the 230 from a car application, you can have stock exhaust manifold split. cast iron is good low tech and cheaper than the al parts. with the cast iron split exhaust, you keep the carb heat feature. a single 2bbl carb is easier than a dual 1bbl carb setup and likely better on fuel. if done right, it looks factory unlike the hop up mod look.
