As far as I have seen all the distributors got red tags, or maybe more accurately they never got green tags.
I know all of the 12V trucks I have ever checked had red tags on the distributor.
I do think that some of the early tags were black (into the early 40s, 30s, etc), but unlike the Generators, and Starter Motors, the Distributors never got green tags.
That may have changed sometime in the 60s, but I do not spend a lot of time checking LA 318 distributors.
