Sounds like that forklift operator thinks he's running a front loader in a rock quarry. Honestly, the $3700 or whatever in damages you were asking for seems generous on your end based on the rarity of the equipment and the fact that it can't really ever be repaired to the condition it was in before their repeated abuse wrecked it.
