Should be in the driver's side of the head at the back (bellhousing) end of the engine in a 1/2 IP tapped hole. The military sender has a half inch pipe thread on it. My M43 came with a 1/4 IP tapped hole and a civilian gage in it, even though it had a military air cleaner and distributor on it. Most likely somebody swapped a civilian head onto it. In any case, in the head above and behind the oil filter is where the temp sender should be. If you find the vertical flat on the casting and there's a pipe plug in it, that's where you should put the sender.
