I saw $500 worth of "free" fuel and figured I had to try it. Having run about 100 gallons of it through two trucks now, I'm thinking it was worth it. I happen to have a large supply of surplus fuel filters that don't fit any rig I own, and an electric fuel pump to pump the fuel through them, so my filtering setup didn't cost much. I think several of my neighbors also have abandoned in-ground oil tanks, so I may scrounge some of their oil too, unless diesel drops back to $2/gal or so.
I just drained the primary fuel filter can on the wrecker into a clear jar and was surprised to see nothing but clean fuel in it. It seems my system is working okay and I'm not sucking any grunge into the system.
As for the fence posts, that's what I plan to do with the dregs from each barrel -- dump it in a 5-gallon bucket and soak posts in it. Or if I end up with a lot, mix a little tar and waste motor oil in it and use it to oil my road.
