We have a 2007 Caliber and its been a great car. You need to learn how the CVT transmission works. You simply cant put it to the floor like the old days. You can use the gas pedal and the transmission to get aceleration. Get over half to 3/4 pedal and that thing will take off like a rocket. If you just hold it to the floor the engine red lines and it is slower to get up to speed.
