The Pyro's on my diesels are connected as Dave mentions. The only power goes to the lamp to illuminate the gauge. When hooking up the thermocouple, there is a polarity, is the gauge does not read, switch the wires.
My VDO gauges are designed for Type K Thermocouples. The type thermocouple must be matched to the design of the gauge to read properly.
