The advantage to alternators is more out put at lower speeds, where generators shut off at low speeds.

Anyway, the accessories you want are all neg earth, so just polarise the generator accordingly. Then move all of the wires on the back of the ammeter from one side to the other, or it will read backwards. And you will need a voltage limiter for the gas gauge.

Actually, polarity doesn't matter on most motors- they won't run backwards if polarity reversed. Solenoids OK too. But radios are polarity sensitive.
