Hoping this doesn't sound like another Tom & Jerry flick, but I did a little Google search on Granite City. There is mention of roads that were "paved" with wood planks. And plenty of flooding in the past. That must have been what my dad was referring to. Anyway, I'm sure they are long since replaced with something more suitable. And, in our area, we have stumbled across old water lines that were made out of wood. 4 pieces joined together to make a square tube and buried in the ground to run water through. Weird.
