Mar K has a tech article on cutting the rabbets. But I didn't think the deeper slot at the inboard edge the rabbet was a good idea. I think it will just hold more water, leading to rot. The edge of their strips are flush with the bottoms, so no need for the deeper slot. But YMMV.
